Virginia State University’s most recent basketball signee comes from Texas. But he is no stranger to this area.

Brandon Holley was a standout on George Wythe High School’s 2015 State Division 3 championship team.

Holley has signed with VSU Coach Lonnie Blow Jr. following two seasons at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas.

The 6-foot-3 guard averaged nine points while shooting 35.4 percent from the 3-point range for Trinity, a perennial junior college power. Holley hit 10 3-pointers while collecting 37 points against Bossier Parish Community College in Louisiana.

Locally, Holley was at his best in the 2015 state semifinals and final at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center. He had 22 points in the semifinals against Northside High School of Roanoke County and 20 points against Spotswood High School of Rockingham County in the final.

Coach Blow is hopeful Holley can take up some of the slack left by departing All-CIAA guard Kevin Williams.
