The Rev. Brett Fuller, chaplain of the Washington professional football team, is to speak Tuesday, Aug. 4, at a luncheon for Richmond area faith leaders during the team’s training camp in Richmond.

The “Faith, Family and Football Luncheon” will be held noon to 2 p.m. at U-Turn Sports, 2101 Maywill St. in the West End.

Rev. Fuller, who is senior pastor at Grace Covenant Church in Chantilly, has served as the team’s chaplain for 13 years and will talk about his experiences in that role during the luncheon.

Some team members also are expected to share about their faith.

Last year’s inaugural luncheon in Richmond attracted about 50 people, including Washington President Bruce Allen and former Washington quarterback Doug Williams, who was selected Super Bowl XXII’s Most Valuable Player.

The luncheon will be hosted by the Rev. Joe Ellison of Essex Village Ministries in Henrico County and the Rev. Calvin Duncan of Faith and Family Church in Chesterfield County.

They are joining with other area faith leaders to form a new group called Richmond Faith Leaders.

The group’s purpose is to assist the team’s outreach efforts in the Richmond community and to organize charitable events to aid schools, food banks, veterans and others, said the Rev. Ellison, who also is senior chaplain for Richmond Raceway Ministries & Pro Sports Chaplaincy.

Others on the group’s advisory board include Michael Stock, director of the Greater Richmond Fellowship of Christian Athletes; the Rev. Rick McDaniel, senior pastor of Richmond Community Church in Glen Allen; Dr. Calvin Durham, senior pastor of New Hope Church of God in Christ in Norfolk; Rocky Marrin, founder of 3WIDE Ministries in Glen Allen; and Kris Wheeler, president of U-Turn Sports.

Rev. Ellison said there are still several openings for faith leaders interested in attending the luncheon.
