Re “After 26 years, Judge Roberts retiring from juvenile court,” July 21-23 edition:
Congratulations to Judge Angela Edwards Roberts, who retired from Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court on July 29.
Working as a former administrator at the Richmond Juvenile Detention Center, I had the opportunity to meet with and talk with many judges at the Oliver Hill Courts Building. Judge Roberts was very kindhearted and always listened to what you had to say. Judge Roberts would then give you her opinion on the matter.
We knew with her, along with the other judges, we had friends that would help us become better. Even though she was busy, Judge Roberts had time to talk with you about certain issues you might be facing at the detention center. She is credited with pushing the Richmond court to embrace the Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative, which helped decrease overcrowding at the Richmond Juvenile Detention Center.
I always considered her a friend who was just and fair, and gave out appropriate sentences. I, along with many others, simply want to thank Judge Roberts. Her footprint on the court and detention center will never be forgotten. You are a judge who really cares. Job well done.
