Richmonder Preston Brown has worn multiple hats in his life.

Among other things, he owns and operates a radio station, has been a car dealer, run restaurants, published a newspaper, been a professional wrestler and been a candidate for public office.

Now he’s trying something new — being a standup comedian.

Mr. Brown will make his debut 8 p.m. Aug. 9, at the Funny Bone comedy club in Virginia Beach.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to do,” said Mr. Brown, owner of WCLM 1450 AM in Richmond. Now that he’s 62, “I didn’t want to wait any longer.”

He said he began taking classes a few months ago at a comedy school the club offers.

“Now it’s time to take the stage and see what I have to offer,” he said.
