Boyer named to 1st District seat

John Edward “Dawson” Boyer was selected by the Richmond School Board on Monday to fill the vacant 1st District seat.

John Edward “Dawson” Boyer was selected by the Richmond School Board on Monday to fill the vacant 1st District seat.

Mr. Boyer, a 30-year-old real estate agent and ice cream shop owner, was chosen in a 6-2 vote. He replaces Glen H. Sturtevant, who vacated the seat in January following his election to the state Senate.

The board selected Mr. Boyer over nine other candidates that were interviewed in recent meetings.

After he was sworn in Tuesday by Richmond Circuit Court Clerk Edward F. Jewett at City Hall, Mr. Boyer told the Free Press his top priority would be to help approve a sound budget for Richmond

Mr. Boyer will represent the

district for the next 10 months, filling Mr. Sturtevant’s unexpired term until elections are held in November. He said he is lean- ing toward running for a four-year term

Public Schools.
