Virginia State University scholar-athlete Wynterra Pittman has received the 2016 NCAA Division II Degree Completion Award.

The grant enables students with no more athletic eligibility to retain scholarship funding from the NCAA while completing their degree.

A standout basketball player, Pittman helped VSU win the 2015 CIAA championship while earning Dean’s List grades for two years. During the last season, she led the Trojans in scoring (12.9 points per game) and rebounding (8.5 per game).

In addition to her athletic and academic achievements, she was a leader in helping the VSU Athletic Department reach its goal of more than 1,700 hours of campus and community volunteer service.

A native of Florida who transferred to VSU from Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Alabama, Pittman is working to complete her bachelor’s degree in health, physical education and recreation with an eye toward a possible master’s degree in sports management.
