Richie N. McKeithen is the new city assessor.

Richmond City Council named him Monday to succeed James D. Hester, who retired last year.

The 54-year-old Washington native is to start Monday, June 5. He is expected to earn about the same amount as Mr. Hester, whose salary was near $145,000 when he retired.

Mr. McKeithen brings significant experience to the position of valuing properties for tax purposes, including previous service as the chief assessor for Hampton, Philadelphia and the District of Columbia. Most recently, he served as the City of Petersburg’s assessor.
