Court Watch seeking volunteers

Court Watch of Central Virginia is seeking volunteers willing to watch the action in courtrooms in the Richmond area and gather information on how the legal system works.
The nonprofit group announced a training session for interested people will take place 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at the offices of New Virginia Majority, 200 Hull St., suite 200, in South Side.
The group’s aim, according to the announcement, is to “bring transparency and accountability to such items as sentencing plea agreements, public defender caseloads and bond amounts” and to help shed light on the disproportionate number of poor people and people of color who appear.
