The broken air conditioning system finally has been fixed at Broad Rock Elementary School, one of the newest public schools in Richmond.
Replacement equipment began cooling teachers and staff Monday after more than three weeks of sweltering conditions in the South Side school building.
Darin Simmons Jr., Richmond Public Schools chief operating officer, said last week that the air conditioning was knocked out when two compressors failed in the final weeks before the school year ended on June 14.
He said it took time to get replacement equipment shipped in and for enough sunny days to complete installation.
