Imam Irfan Ali Shah of the Islamic Center of Henrico offers prayers in remembrance of the victims of the Easter Sunday bombings at three Christian churches and three luxury hotels in Sri Lanka that claimed the lives of more than 250 people and wounded 500 others. The local interfaith service on April 26 included prayers for peace and an end to violence around the world. The Islamic State, or ISIS, released a video claiming responsibility for the terrorist attacks. More than 24 people have been arrested. Authorities were investigating whether the attack was related to the March 15 massacre at two mosques in Australia by a gunman who killed 50 people and wounded another 50. Last Saturday, a 19-year-old California man opened fire on members of a synagogue outside San Diego, killing a 60-year-old woman and injuring several others, including the rabbi. Zulfi Khan, a member of the Islamic Center of Henrico, told the media, “Every few weeks, we are hearing news of another place of worship being attacked. It does not matter whether you are Christian, Muslim or Jewish or any other religion. We are all together. The common thread that ties us together is being human. And being human is to care about one another.”
