Richmond Mayor Levar M. Stoney has gained a national platform.
For the next two years, he will serve as president of the Democratic Mayors Association, an organization of more than 500 mayors of cities with at least 30,000 people.
He was elected Jan. 21 along with other officers from cities ranging from Scranton, Penn., to San Diego the association announced.
“I am eager to build on the association’s achievements from the past two years,” Mayor Stoney stated after his election. “We must amplify the Democratic voice in local politics, get away from party divisions and get back to focusing on the basics: Jobs, housing, education and health care.”
