“Beyond Black Radicalism,” a talk by historian Janira Teague at the Library of Virginia at noon. The assistant professor of history at Norfolk State University will discuss how African-Americans migration to New York shaped electoral politics. Maymont’s Summer Kickoff Concert begins at 7 p.m. with bluegrass and country sounds from The Wilson Springs Hotel and South Hill Banks at 8:30 p.m. The music continues on Saturday at 5 p.m. with Skydog and Three Sheets to the Wind.
