Richmond Region Tourism’s BLK RVA program is now accepting nominations for its Community Awards, marking the initiative’s fifth anniversary.

Richmond Region Tourism’s BLK RVA program is now accepting nominations for its Community Awards, marking the initiative’s fifth anniversary.

The awards recognize contributions to the region’s Black community in history, food and drink, arts and entertainment and community development. Nominations are open until July 7 at visitblkrva.com/awards.

Five award categories include Culinary Heritage, Cultural Enrichment, Cultural Preservation, Rising Community Impact and Rooted Community Impact. Eligible nominees include Black-owned tourism-related businesses, cultural initiatives and community programs within Richmond and surrounding counties.

Community leaders and influencers are also eligible.

The nomination period will be followed by public online voting July 15 through 30. Voters can support multiple nominees without limits. The awards ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 23 at the Hippodrome Theater.
