The Visual Arts Center of Richmond, in partnership with the nonprofit Crafting the Future, hosts “The Shape of Water,” a group exhibition exploring themes of human embodiment, land connection and lasting impressions. The exhibition runs through Jan. 12.

Curated by Jaynelle Hazard and Terrick Gutierrez, the show brings together a diverse group of artists who use materials such as textiles, glass and clay to delve into storytelling, memory and modernity. Through installations, two-dimensional work and functional art, artists transform these materials to convey personal and collective narratives.

The exhibition title, “The Shape of Water,” draws from the concept that water retains information, much like personal memories, holding onto impressions over time — a theme that resonates with the exhibit’s focus on the marks we make and leave behind.

Featured artists include April Bey, Sam Christian, Gabrielle Ione Hickmon, Hong Hong, Kandy G. Lopez, Aryana Minai, Cedric Mitchell, Jomo Tariku and Felandus Thames.
