Federal offices and state offices will be closed Thursday, Jan. 1 in observance of New Year’s Day. City of Richmond offices and Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico county offices will be closed. Courts in Richmond, Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico counties will be closed. 

Public schools in Richmond, Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico are on winter break and will be closed Jan. 1. Richmond Public Library and county libraries will be closed. 

Trash and recycling collections will not occur Thursday; collections for Thursday routes will be delayed by one day. The U.S. Postal Service will not deliver mail Thursday. Department of Motor Vehicles customer service centers will be closed. 

GRTC buses will operate on a holiday (Sunday) schedule and resume weekday service Friday, Jan. 2. Virginia ABC stores will be open with adjusted hours Jan. 1. Banks and credit unions typically follow federal holidays and will be closed. 

Richmond Free Press offices will be closed Thursday, Jan. 1.
