Starting July 7, the City of Richmond’s Parking Enterprise Division implemented new parking fees following approval of the city budget by City Council in May.

Parking meter rates increased by 50 cents, rising from $2 to $2.50 per hour. The city says metered parking is designed to encourage turnover and create more short-term parking options in high-demand areas.

Penalties for exceeding the metered time limit rose from $25 to $30. Fines for parking violations such as parking on sidewalks, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, in front of public or private driveways, or other restricted locations increased from $40 to $50.

Monthly parking fees in city-owned garages also increased by $5.
