Light and art decorate the stone and brick gazebo at Petronius Jones Park on Idlewood Avenue in the Randolph neighborhood. The display, called “Marcus-David Peters Circle” and done by artists Dustin Klein, Alex Criqui, Miguel Carter-Fisher and Josh Zarambo, is just one of example of the illuminated art that was spread across the city during the InLight Richmond show that ended Sunday. The 1708 Gallery in Downtown added a new twist to the 13th edition of the artistic illumination that it sponsors. Rather than using one site as in the past, the artwork was placed in various locations around Richmond to encourage social distancing, including this small park and at the former Richmond Community Hospital building in North Side. As always, the show offered the works of a variety of Richmond area artists.

Work continues on the creation of a memorial park to the once vital Black community of Fulton that was eliminated by urban renewal 50 years ago. Location: Goddin Street and Williamsburg Road at the foot of Powhatan Hill in the East End. Spencer E. Jones III and other former residents have pushed for a place of honor and remembrance for the community they loved and lost in the late 1960s. In the works for three years, the project to remake the site began just before Thanksgiving. Robbie Danil of ADDO Enterprises is spearheading the development that he said would take about six months. This is the first phase for which the city is spending about $925,000 to create a place of reflection with trees and other amenities. Additional work is planned in a second phase.

Welcoming the burgundy and gold/There’s no doubt that the Washington Football Team has real diehard fans in Richmond. After a year’s hiatus because of COVID-19, the NFL team received a big welcome back to its Richmond training camp on Wednesday by fans who turned out in droves. A long line formed early at the entry gate of the Bon Secours Training Facility on West Leigh Street as people waited eagerly to see their favorite players go through practice.
