Estes, a well-known community strategist and organizer who served on the Mayor’s Anti-Poverty Commission. It is one of four growing sites in the Food Justice Corridor. Demonstrators came out in Richmond to demand justice for Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old emergency medical technician who was shot and killed by police during a late-night raid of her Louisville, Ky., apartment on March 13. People took to the streets in Richmond on Sept. 23, just hours after a Kentucky grand jury absolved two white police officers in her shooting death, while charging a third, former Louisville Metro Police Detective Brett Hankison, with three counts of wanton endangerment for shooting into neighboring apartments and endangering Ms.Taylor’s neighbors. No one was charged in her death.

The American Baptist Home Mission Society began classes in 1865 to educate freed slaves. Gov. The installation of new infrastructure continues for new housing in the Creighton Court community, 2101 Creighton Road. One of the revitalization goals of Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority for the redevelopment of the Creighton Court community is to provide more affordable housing options by increasing density and, build more units than what is currently there now. Currently, there are 504 units in Creighton Court. The approved Master Plan is designed for an increase of 196 mixed-income units, for a total of 700 units on the site.

Another piece of Richmond history is biting the dust. The long-vacant headquarters building for Fulton Gas Works is in the final phase of demolition. Most of the building, which appears to date from 1900, has been demolished from the site at 3301 Williamsburg Ave. Bare ground remains. The Gas Works began operations in 1856 to provide coal-converted natural gas to fuel streetlights and, later, to heat homes. The plant continued to operate until 1950, when the city shut down the operation and began importing the fuel.
