Fifteen area churches and a host of volunteers spent Labor Day helping Richmond students get ready for the start of classes the next day.

Thirteen churches, led by Third Street Bethel AME, teamed up to provide the free shoes at Second Baptist. Hundreds of volunteers worked with children and parents to find the right fit.

Nail technicians Tasha Hamilton and Tynika Donald handle the work. They were among seven manicurists who volunteered at the Back-to-School Barber & Beauty Day. Volunteer barbers also provided free haircuts to children at the event.
