Kym and Kyle Grinnage are out to revive The Hustle, a once popular dance style that faded after the 1970s.

On Friday night, the Richmond couple will teach the basics of the dance without charge at 6:30 p.m. May 5 at the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, 122 W. Leigh St.

The museum is offering the free program in opening its doors during the monthly RVA First Fridays arts and cultural showcase in Downtown.

The Grinnages are an A-list couple in Richmond. Kym is vice president and general manager of WWBT-NBC12, the Richmond NBC affiliate, while Kyle has carved out her own niche as a beauty, skin care and image consultant.

The former New Yorkers grew up dancing The Hustle and hope their “students” will help them bring back the dance that young people created at neighborhood parties and turned into a popular style during the disco era.

At the event, the couple plan to teach basic steps and the art of leading and following that are integral to partner dancing.
