On Oct. 27, President Biden announced his intent to appoint Virginia State University’s Dr. Derrick C. Scott to the National Board of Education Sciences. Dr. Scott is the dean of VSU’s College of Natural and Health Sciences.
The board’s 15 voting members advise the director of the Institute of Education Sciences and ensure the priorities of the Institute and the National Education Centers are consistent with the organization’s mission.
Dr. Scott earned his bachelor’s in biology at VSU, a master’s in molecular biology from Virginia Tech, and a Ph.D. in integrative biology from the University of South Carolina. As dean at VSU, his goals include leading VSU to high research activity status and creating more opportunities for minorities and women to enter science careers.
