A ruling last Thursday by retired Judge Robert S. Brewbaker Jr. reunited Myrna Pride with the three children she shares with estranged husband, Sen. Joe Morrissey, D-Richmond.

Formerly known as Myrna Morrissey, “Pride” now is her preferred last name.

Although the judge’s orders to the parties prevent her from speaking specifically about the case, Ms. Pride shared her feelings in a text to the Richmond Free Press on Feb 6.

“I am beyond pleased that the children are home with me,” she wrote. “The last couple of weeks have been a lot on ALL parties involved. My main focus right now is getting the kids back into their routine and making sure they are mentally and emotionally OK.”

She directed any further questions to attorneys Mary Elizabeth White and Darcey Geissler, and her family. Both made public statements about the case last week.

Ms. Pride’s attorneys called the protective custody case “an abuse of the legal system,” and her family’s statement began by saying “justice was served.”

It also called Sen. Morrissey’s allegations of child abuse “unfounded” and said the court’s ruling had “completely vindicated” Ms. Pride and her boyfriend. The family ended by saying, “We are elated [Myrna] was able to have her day in court and that her children are home in her care where they belong.”

“The investigation is still ongoing at this point,” Liz Caroon of the Chesterfield County Police Department confirmed regarding the child abuse case opened by the department. “There are still a few more steps we’ve got to go through, and we are working through them on our end.”
