History tours return at The Valentine
Free Press staff report | 4/3/2025, 6 p.m.
The Valentine’s Richmond History Tours will resume in April, offering guided explorations of the city’s past.
Now in their 25th year, the tours highlight historic sites, architectural landmarks and lesser-known stories from Richmond’s history.
The tours return 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, with a new tour of Scott’s Addition, an early 20th-century commercial and industrial district named for Gen. Winfield Scott. The area features notable examples of Art Deco and Moderne commercial architecture.
The Valentine also is bringing back its History Hounds tours, a series of dog-friendly walking tours in partnership with the Richmond SPCA.
Each tour includes an adoptable dog from the SPCA. The first tour takes place April 13 in Oregon Hill.
In May, special tours will focus on the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with walking tours in Church Hill, Shockoe Bottom and Court End examining Richmond’s role in the American Revolution.
