Virginia State University will roll out the red carpet for three of its storied football teams during the 2025 Homecoming celebration. On Saturday, Oct. 25, at Rogers Stadium, the Trojans will honor squads that left a lasting mark on the program with championship glory.

The celebration spotlights the 1995 team, which captured VSU’s first CIAA title since 1972 under head coach Lou Anderson, featuring All-Conference standouts Robert Morgan, Virgil Moore, Telley Priester and Kelvin Kinney. The 1970 team, led by VSU alumnus Walter Lovett, claimed a 32-14 victory over Johnson C. Smith in the CIAA championship game, anchored by standout defensive tackle Larry Brooks. And the 1945 squad, coached by Harry R. Jefferson, posted an undefeated 8-0-2 record, including a victory over North Carolina Central in the Piedmont Tobacco Bowl, with All-Conference honorees Francis Jolly, David Battle, John Jones and Charles Price.

“As a former VSU student-athlete, I take great pride in recognizing the history and standard of excellence these teams built for Virginia State University athletics,” said Tiffani-Dawn B. Sykes, VSU associate vice president for intercollegiate athletics “We’re proud to honor them and keep their legacy alive.”

A full schedule of Homecoming events will be released later.
