El Dorado High School senior running back Ryan Estrada has been named the inaugural Hispanic High School Football Player of the Year, the Hispanic Football Hall of Fame announced Monday.

Estrada, who is of Panamanian and Mexican heritage, rushed for 2,801 yards and 37 touchdowns during his final season at El Dorado High in El Paso, Texas. The performance earned him 1-5A Division 1 All-District Overall Most Valuable Player honors.

The four-star prospect ranks as the No. 23 running back nationally by ESPN and the No. 44 overall player in Texas by 247Composite.

The award recognizes the most outstanding Hispanic high school football player who demonstrates exceptional ability and integrity. Estrada was selected from five finalists by a nine-member committee that includes NFL Senior National Columnist Judy Battista and ESPN Deportes reporter John Sutcliffe.

“Ryan represents the exciting next generation of Hispanic football talent,” said Anthony Muñoz, a founding board member of the Hispanic Football Hall of Fame. “By setting city records and excelling as a top national prospect, he has already inspired countless young players.”

The other finalists were linebacker Oscar Aguilar of Downey High School in California; quarterback Jake Fette of Del Valle High School in El Paso; wide receiver Kai Meza of Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah; and defensive back Zeth Thues of Liberty High School in Peoria, Arizona.

Estrada will be honored May 5 during the Hispanic Football Hall of Fame Celebración de Fútbol in Las Vegas.
