Gov. Glenn Youngkin has appointed Morenike Miles, a senior executive at Dominion Energy, to the Virginia State University Board of Visitors, the university announced.

Miles serves as vice president and chief compliance officer at Dominion, where she oversees regulatory compliance, electric market policy and enterprise policy and compliance. She joined the energy company in 2006 and has held several leadership roles including senior counsel, assistant general counsel, deputy general counsel and multiple vice president-level positions.

Miles’ appointment took effect July 1.

“We proudly welcome Morenike Miles as the latest appointee to our Board of Visitors,” VSU President Makola Abdullah said in a statement. “I look forward to working closely with her and all our board members as we continue advancing the university and delivering a greater educational experience to our students.”

Youngkin also reappointed Jon Moore, president and chief executive officer of Philip Morris USA, to the board for an additional term. Moore was first appointed in 2021 by then-Gov. Ralph Northam.

The VSU Board of Visitors consists of 15 members and meets quarterly to address matters including strategic planning, student and academic affairs, financial oversight and campus development. The board is responsible for appointing the university president, approving tuition and fees and upholding the institution’s mission.
