Free Press staff report | 1/15/2026, 6 p.m.
Richmond’s annual “Bring One for the Chipper” Christmas tree recycling and e-cycle event was postponed one week due to forecasted weather and will be held Saturday, Jan. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1710 Robin Hood Road.
Residents can drop off trees, shred sensitive documents and recycle electronics at the free event. Volunteers will provide curbside assistance, but commercial items will not be accepted.
Christmas trees must be free of lights and decorations. Collected trees will be chipped into mulch for local parks, gardens and landscapes. Free mulch will be available. Residents may also drop off trees before the event at 1710 Robin Hood Road or the East Richmond Road Convenience Center at 3800 East Richmond Road, through Friday, Jan. 16 from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Paper shredding allows up to five bags or boxes per household; remove staples and clips before dropoff. Electronics including computers, monitors, printers, stereos, camcorders, phones and most plug-in devices will be accepted. Some items may carry fees; see the full list at rva.gov/public-works/clean-city-commission.
The event is hosted by the Richmond Department of Public Works, the Clean City Commission and the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority.
