Brownlee was one of several Richmond area residents whose ancestry was researched as part of “Reclaiming Our Time,”,an ongoing project to reveal the histories and DNA ancestry of participants, with a major focus on Richmond’s public housing communities.
The event also included a three-person drum circle and ceremonial weddings for ancestors whose marriages went unrecognized by law.
