Making a new friend - Kaya Wagner of Varina gives Pickles, the French bulldog, a friendly back scratch last Saturday at the Richmond Dog Festival in Chimborazo Park. The event, hosted by Enrichmond, was to generate donations to go to Friends of Chimborazo Park to help clean and maintain the dog park in Church Hill.
Students at St. Andrew’s School join art teacher Chris Milk on Monday to get their first look at the mural they all helped create to mark the 125th year of the private school based in Oregon Hill.
Mr. Milk prepares kindergarten students to participate in the painting last Friday.

Voter empowerment- Linda Jackson-Shaw, chair of the Connection Committee of Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, leads the organization’s training to register people to vote. The training session at the L. Douglas Wilder Library & Learning Resource Center at Virginia Union University was held Tuesday on National Voter Registration Day. Four area AKA chapters plan
to hold a series of community and church meetings to register people to vote and to inform people of their voting rights. The meetings will be targeted before the Nov. 5 election and the presidential election in November 2020. The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 5 election, or to file an address change to vote, is Tuesday, Oct. 15. The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is Tuesday, Oct. 29.
