Petersburg church hosts health, back-to-school program

Greater Faith AME Zion Church in Petersburg is hosting an Outdoor Health Awareness Expo and Back-to-School Youth Explosion.
The free event is slated from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the church, 1301 Youngs Road.
The church is led by the Rev. Audrey Jones.
The expo will include health screenings, interactive health and educational sessions and discussions with health professionals about medical issues facing the African-American community, according to organizers.
The back-to-school portion will feature entertainment, food, games and distribution of school supplies.
Greater Faith AME is organizing the expo as a partnership with the Healthy Churches 2020 Coalition of Central Virginia, which is a Balm in Gilead Inc. Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health program. It is administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is aimed at reducing health disparities in the black community.
