Richmond Public Schools is turning out scholars.
The highest-achieving students in the Class of 2019 at each of the city’s high schools were celebrated at the annual Valedictorian Luncheon held May 30 at the Science Museum of Virginia.
Theme for the event: “Dream Big & Dare to Fail.”
The students were inspired by the luncheon speaker, Richmond teacher Rodney A. Robinson, the 2019 National Teacher of the Year.
They were lauded by RPS Superintendent Jason Kamras, members of the School Board and other elected officials in attendance.
The top scholars also were each awarded a laptop by sponsors Best Buy and CodeVa.
This year’s valedictorians, and where they plan to matriculate in the fall, are:
Armstrong: Laura Diara Blackwell, 4.06 GPA, Virginia Tech.
Franklin Military Academy: William Wilkins, 4.35 GPA, Virginia Commonwealth University.
Huguenot: Lahjae White-Patterson, 4.63 GPA, Virginia Tech.
Thomas Jefferson: Cozette Bell-Ferguson, 4.87 GPA, Temple University.
John Marshall: Alexis Stokes, 4.57 GPA, University of Virginia.
Open High: Chantal Hernandez, 4.88 GPA, University of Virginia.
Richmond Community: Jordan Baker, 4.70 GPA, University of Virginia.
George Wythe: Majestic Colley, 3.92 GPA, Old Dominion University.
