Thomas Jefferson High going to state playoffs

Richmond’s Thomas Jefferson High School will face a familiar foe in the first round of the Class 2, Region A football playoffs this Friday, Nov. 12.

The Vikings will travel toAmelia Court House to play Amelia High School, the same team they lost to 8-7 on Sept. 10. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

In the playoffs, Thomas Jefferson is the fifth seed while Amelia is seeded third.

Coach Josef Harrison’s Vikings are 6-3 but coming off back-to-back losses to Colonial Heights High School (30-0) and Mills Godwin High School (29-14).

Before that, the Vikings had won four in a row and six of their first seven games.

The Amelia County High School Raiders are 7-3 but lost their regular season finale 22-6 to Lunenburg.

Other regional quarterfinals matchups are No. 8 seed Randolph-Henry at No. 1 Nottoway; No. 7 Greensville at No. 2 King William; and No. 6 Poquoson at No. 3 Brunswick.

The State 2A championship game is set for Dec. 11 in Salem.
