Come one, come all and share Thanksgiving with us.

That’s the heartfelt invitation to the community as The Giving Heart prepares to serve a free turkey dinner with all the trimmings in Downtown.

This is the 10th year for the Community Thanksgiving Feast that will take place between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Downtown. Doors open for guests at 9:30 a.m.

The free event is designed to ensure everyone has a happy holiday, according to Vicki Neilson, founder and executive director of The Giving Heart nonprofit organization. She anticipates about 3,000 people will be served this year.

Special emphasis is made to include homeless people, elderly individuals, working-class families, local military personnel and those who otherwise would be alone during the holiday, she noted.

Organizers rely on community support from hundreds of volunteers and donations from dozens of area businesses to pull off the huge undertaking. Volunteers will cook, greet, seat and serve guests.

Entrance to the dining hall line is located at 5th and Marshall Streets. An ADA entrance is located on Marshall Street between 3rd and 5th streets.

GRTC is offering free bus rides to and from the event from seven locations throughout the city. Anyone wishing to attend may meet a Giving Heart volunteer to board a GRTC bus between 9 and 10 a.m. at the following locations: Willow Lawn, Southside Plaza, Broad and Robinson streets, Main and 25th streets, 21st and Marshall streets, Laburnum and Chamberlayne avenues, and Brookland Park Boulevard and Chamberlayne Avenue.
